According to recent claims from a whistleblower, Ghislaine Maxwell, now completing a two-decade sentence for trafficking offenses, is allegedly readying a commutation application for review by the Trump administration.

Special Treatment Claimed at Correctional Facility

House Democrats on the House judiciary committee revealed that a source provided information indicating Maxwell is preparing the commutation application. They also stated she has been receiving special treatment at the minimum-security facility in Texas.

Congressman Jamie Raskin, the ranking member on the House judiciary committee, stated in a news release that the facility's chief was “helping” the convict with copying, printing, and sending documents to support her bid for clemency.

The exact content of the clemency request are unknown, Raskin added.

Claimed Perks and Special Accommodations

Raskin states that, according to the whistleblower, Maxwell has been given specially prepared food that are hand-delivered to her living area, and the supervisor has “personally arranged” exclusive visits for her and her guests.

These meetings reportedly involve a designated private space for attendees and a variety of food and drinks for her associates.

Those visiting Maxwell were also reportedly permitted to bring computers, which the congressman characterized as an “unprecedented action” given the potential danger and potential for unsupervised contact.

In one alleged instance, when phone lines went down for other inmates, she was given specific instructions about instructing her associates to call and how staff would connect the communication to her.

Warden as “Personal Secretary”

The source also allegedly told congressional members that when Maxwell wanted to examine and modify papers “quickly”, she “essentially used” the official as her “personal secretary and administrative assistant”.

The statement states that those writing to her would send files directly to the supervisor, who would hand them over to Maxwell, who would review and edit them and return them to the warden to scan and provide to the original sender.

Extra Benefits Alleged

Other privileges allegedly granted to her include opportunities to interact with a service dog puppy – a perk not “ordinarily allowed” – as well as exclusive nighttime use to the facility's gym.

Maxwell’s attorney has not yet replied to a inquiry regarding the insider's allegations.

Through a spokesperson, the presidential office said that it “will not discuss” on possible pardon appeals.

“Per the President's remarks, granting clemency to Ghislaine Maxwell is not something he has considered,” the spokesperson noted.

Context and Developments

Over the weekend, it was reported that Maxwell told friends and family in electronic messages that she was more content at the Texas facility than her previous prison.

This past summer, Maxwell was transferred from a low-security prison in Tallahassee, Florida to the less restrictive prison in Texas, where most inmates are incarcerated for non-violent offenses and white-collar crimes.

This move, which authorities called as “unprecedented”, occurred just shortly following she was interviewed about the Jeffrey Epstein investigation by the senior justice official, Todd Blanche, who also previously served as Donald Trump's personal lawyer.

This questioning came as the Trump administration was facing increasing scrutiny to disclose additional files related to the Epstein investigation and amid widespread conjecture around the President's own connections to the fallen billionaire and convicted sex offender, who was found deceased in custody in 2019 while facing trial on trafficking accusations.

Lawmaker Reactions

In the news release, Raskin also announced that he had sent a letter to Trump, requesting explanations about the whistleblower’s allegations, and called on the president to reject the clemency appeal.

“It would be inappropriate to approve any form of clemency to this adjudicated and remorseless sex offender,” the representative stated in the letter. “Your Administration should not be providing her with room service, with canine interaction, with government agents attending to her requests, or with any special treatment or institutional privilege at all.”

Raskin requested that the official appear for a open legislative session to discuss the revelations and also presented several inquiries to the President.

He inquired whether Trump had discussed a possible clemency for Maxwell with Blanche or others, whether he had instructed him or anyone else to provide her with the move or special conditions in prison, and whether Maxwell, her attorneys, relatives or agents have made any promises to Trump or his attorneys.

The representative requested for a response to the questions by the specified date.

Last month, the nation's highest court declined to hear an appeal from Maxwell on her trafficking verdict.
